This Is Why Artists Never Get Anything Done 05-31-09

How can you accomplish anything if your models keep eating each other? You leave them alone for five minutes and look what you come back to! Honestly!
In other news, while playing around with my bright and shiny copy of Creative Suite 4 I have discovered that Adobe Bridge has a ton of new features. One in particular (Camera Raw) should make editing pictures for this blog MUCH faster and better and wonderfuler. More control in less time, this could be a fantastic thing (and hopefully help me keep the blog more up to date!)
Childhood Dream Revisited 05-30-09
Today was a big bag of fun which involved driving all they way down to Oxnard to visit a college friend for his birthday. It was wonderful being with the old gang again and despite plans to leave early, we all ended up going to see the 9:30 showing of Pixar’s Up.
Basically I am in love with this movie. Furthermore, it has rekindled a childhood dream to be an animator. Let the research into a new career begin!
Oh Rustyness 05-29-09
Today I was wandering around looking for something to take a picture of. It took a while to find something I liked but then I spotted this rusty little fellow and, well, here you go. Today’s picture – a rusty water meter.
One Plant For You And One Plant For Me 05-28-09
This is a table display in one of the cooler stores on State St. I liked the idea of using potted herbs as a place setting/ party gift / table setting all-in-one deal – except once the food is on the table where do you put your plant?
Ron & Cole 05-27-09
While on an errand for work today I found myself next to a very large bus at a stop light. Something about the driver’s expression and the name card taped to the door caught my attention.
The triple reflections from all the windows is kind of fun too.
Swirly Metal (and flowers) 05-26-09
When I got home from work today I discovered that there was no parking on my block (grr!) But, this caused me to park a block over and find a house with fun metal swirls. Yay for slowing down and looking around.
Art is a Messy Subject 05-25-09
Chalk Festival_9, originally uploaded by JulesFaas.
On my most wonderful day off, I headed back up to I Madonnari to check out the finished pieces. I took advantage of the large groups of distracted people to practice my super stealthy candid portrait shots. These girls were finishing up their square, I loved how the girl in the orange is completely covered in chalk.
Anyone have any critiques on this shot? Portraits are a new thing so I’d love some feedback. Is the subject clear enough to compensate for the crazy busy background? What could I have done better? Thanks for your help friends!
If only I had some tunes 05-24-09
This was a display in a store that I wandered around in today. Colorful headphones, yes please!
In other news my beach crusier has a new fun seat and is ready for summer – yay!
Visions Emerging 05-23-09
Today was the beginning of the I Madonnari Chalk Drawing festival up by the Mission. It was pretty cool to watch the artists work. Even though they had only been at it for a few hours (they get 3 days) I could already pick out which ones were going to be my favorites.
I’m amazed at the expression in the eyes on this girl’s face! It is amazing to me that the artists can maintain cohesive works of art on such a big scale. Seeing this much creativity in one place really got me antsy to go home and make something.

I had the privilege of seeing Flight of the Conchords at the SB Bowl tonight and it was a fabulous show! Laughter is a wonderful thing. It even makes it so you forget that you are freezing and sitting on a hard piece of metal. Yay for laughter!
Plant Graffiti 05-21-09
This poor plant is covered in carvings. You have to wonder if he liked the attention, liked being a marker of events (much like a photograph actually); or if he just thought it hurt and wished the people would go way and stop poking him. Or maybe it’s a girl plant. I guess we will never know.
It’s All in the Details 05-20-09
This is part of the fence in front of my house. I love the blue inlay in the main post. Details are what make life interesting, if you take the time to stop and notice them.

Who Knew, Cactus Can Be Pretty 05-18-09
I went walking around my neighborhood this evening and came across and extremely colorful cactus garden. I was impressed with the variety of colors and textures. I’ve always been in the “cacti are pointy and boring” camp, but the owner of this garden might be able to convince me otherwise.
It’s All Fun and Games 05-17-09
A friend of mine had a game night after church tonight. This cool flower was chilling outside of her house.
We played Settlers of Catan at said game night and I, with great humility and stealth, kicked butt! No one saw it coming and I was very proud of myself. (I’ve never won this particular game before, thus all the gloating. I’m not usually quite this competitive — ok well that’s not true, I just don’t normally post it online afterwards.)
