I was able to have a really awesome conversation with a new-er friend tonight. We enjoyed coffee and each other and use our brokenness and experiences to speak into each other’s lives. It was one of those good ones.

While we were talking I ended up ripping up my coffee sleeve to make a girl and her dog. – it sort of just happened. Personally, I think she’s kind of cute.

Come Fly With Me 2-6-09

My mini vacation was great! Look at this amazing view I had from the plane.

It’s pretty awesome that we can rise above the clouds for a few hundred dollars (actually this flight only cost me $83). This was only a dream for so many people that came before us and now we think it’s a normal part of life. Sometimes I get stopped dead in my tracks thinking about stuff like that.

Emotional Medicine 1-30-09

First of all, I’m sorry for falling off the face of the earth this weekend – I was taking pictures but wasn’t able to get them uploaded. But I’m back and ready to rock it!

Now then onto business: Friday was a terrible day at work, lets just say I ended up tearing up a bit in the HR office. Once I finally got a lunch break (3:30 pm) I headed straight to the beach, threw out my happy blue towel, put some Imogen Heap in my ears and read a bit of Ben Patterson’s thoughts on the Psalms. Needless to say – I felt much better an hour later :)

I think its important to have a stash of emotional medication for those days that don’t go according to plan, what’s in you’re de-funk medicine cabinet?

Happy Trees 1-29-09

Santa Barbara seems to have a lot of these trees.  They look normal enough the rest of the year but then in January something crazy happens and all of a sudden they are COVERED in these cute white flowers.  They seriously come out of nowhere.  And the best part is that I always forget about them until they show up. Yay for the happy flower trees!

I had trouble with this shot.  All the whites were too bright or the colors were too dark, or the background was a mess, or the picture was just way too busy (there are a ton of these flowers all over the tree) so I finally settled on this one and then had some fun in photoshop on it.  Experimenting in the spice of Dilly Dally I guess.   I’m still determined to get a couple good pics of these trees before the go back to normal so you might see something similar in the next few days.

She’s Gonna Make It After All 1-26-09

Today I was very brave and I cooked for myself, and I was successful!  A co-worker recently took a trip to Italy and brought back some spices for pasta sauce for me.  I went for it.  My measuring spoon giraffe friends are in awe of my amazing cooking talents.

And I know this is kind of cheating (posting a 2nd picture) but when I turned around from taking a picture of this beautifuly displayed dish… well, I laughed at myself.  I thought you would have an opportunity to do so as well:

Behind the Scenes

I really did have ALL the cabinets AND the fridge open for at least the last part of the cooking ordeal.  Oops!

Some friends of mine (and myself) traveled to the far land of Santa Monica to check out some galleries (and gelato) today. It was a day full of fun and inspiration (and gelato). This is the sun setting on Bergamont Station – a compound of galleries I will be going back to in the not-too-distant future.

(I also discovered that one can’t take pictures inside of the gelato place on the 3rd Street Promade.  It’s only January and I’ve already been shot down twice!)

While waiting for a school bus I noticed a cute little house a block away from my house that I had never seen before. This experiment is already training my eye to look for new treasures.

I got groceries! Sadly, this is a rare enough occurrence to be worth documenting.

It’s hard to tell but he is giving all three of us back rubs at the same time. Tea, breakfast burritos, good music, and a massage boy – what a life.

(and I used the timer for this one, I’m going to say that still counts as me taking the picture. Besides I took other pictures this day I just liked this one the best.)

Someone had to make a choice, and a choice was made.

(I already had a photo for today but I couldn’t pass this up!)

My first attempt at cracking a walnut didn’t go so well. (I never did find the nut)
